Well the day is finally here. LSU New Orleans athletics begins.
The ladies have started 2-0 with wins in their exhibitions
Volleyball starts the year with a 3-0 sweep of Alcorn. Two more tomorrow.
Steve, just wanted to say nice job with the "next game" thing with the espn+ info. thought that was a nice touch.
Just trying to keep the front page reasonably current now, even when there's not a whole lot going on yet!
Privateers fall to Stonehill, who lost twice yesterday to Nicholls and Oral Roberts.
Take on ORU later today (4:30 p.m.)
Dang! Almost beat Oral Roberts but fell in the fifth set. 1-2 after the first weekend.
I think both of the l's they took today were preventable. But rough day on the lakefront.
Few early comments on ESPN+ volleyball coverage.
Our broadcasts have identified the Privateers as LSU New Orleans on the scorebug. I've noticed that where the shorthand "UNO" would have been used before, they seem to be using "NOLA" and not "LSUNO."
The Privateers are on the road tonight at West Georgia and the West Georgia-produced broadcast is using "New Orleans" on the scorebug but with the current purple-and-gold logo. That is how I envisioned it and hoped it would be, and may be where it ends up, but I think the school itself is pushing "LSU New Orleans" pretty hard, as much of a mouthful as it is. The WGA announcers are verbally using both "LSU New Orleans" and "New Orleans."
Not critically important stuff, just observations.
and for some reason today's paper says LSUNO in the biggest, top headline.
Admittedly there doesn't seem to be an obvious shorthand to use that *isn't* LSUNO. I don't mind "NOLA" but external media outlets aren't going to use that.
On another note, the volleyball team appears to be quite bad again.
