Just my 2 cents below.
1) I don't think Giolando has a lot of time to "train up" someone to do what needs to be done so hiring "seasoned" individuals at the higher level of the department would seem to make sense.
2) Both hires have good backgrounds and I am not sure that I have ever heard that Bernardi was fired.
3) This department was decimated the past 2 plus years. It is not going to recover overnight. The same with the University.
4) To say it is sinking fast is questionable. The campus has a target of 6000 students. I am not sure what the numbers look like today but if they are nearer to that number and not below 4000 I would think that is a good sign.
5) There are a lot of things happening on campus with departments being reorganized into functional, manageable components. It is a logical thing to do and it will take some time to get the right pieces and people in place.
