As Privateer fans, we are nothing if not GRIZZLED VETERANS of doom-and-gloom surrounding our favorite programs. It's just been a constant drumbeat for... uh, decades now? With occasional tiny bursts of happy (March 2017!). But mostly dread.
There is just generally more positivity around Privateer athletics right now than I can remember in a long long long time. It's almost jarringly weird. Is this what it's like to not be miserable all the time?
With the obvious caveat, and grumpy reminder, that positivity and $4.50 gets you a cup of coffee. Results are results. But I'm just saying.

I was telling someone yesterday that the major difference for me as a fan and alum is that the University administration seems to be fully invested and supportive of athletics as a full partner in the future success of the University.
It does not seem to be lip service like O'brien, ryan, Fos or even Nicklow. (I leave Johnson out because I think she did what she did to save the University and athletics which she could have easily cut during the crisis, at least in my opinion.) And it also appears that the administration is doing this with the full approval of the LSU system.
It is telling that they attend the press conferences, speak to the media, give full throated endorsements for the program and have provided the department with the resources to set the foundation for success. And talking to them it is not an act in my opinion.
I heard that Gio will be adding a few more people to its staff to assist the department in different capacities. I would think those on the staff who endured the past few years have to be happy with what they see taking place.
Time will tell but optimism is flowing out of the Lakefront Arena right now. It is a much better vibe than the past few years and I like how that feels.

“I don’t know if you can put a monetary value on what successful athletics can do to market your university,” Schroyer said. “If you take athletics away from all of the institutions in this state, all those schools, they they can’t survive”

You really hit the nail here. It just saddens me that we ( the university and collective) have had to go thru all of this to get to even HERE.....here being some good news. WHY did it take the 'big brother' coming to save our asses? Why didn't the state, the city, OUR LEADERS do something to help THE university of new orleans? Why was everything always done to protect the big guys and the school that basically built new orleans was left to rot?
yeah, I still got some ptsd over this but certainly, continued success and real progress will eventually water the ptsd down I hope.
